Bead Break was a community bead-making event held at Jannes Library at the Kansas City Art Institute in November 2025. I believe the practice of bead-making can be harnessed as a tool to combat burnout and build community through the meditative practice of repetition. This event specifically asked people to engage in bead making as a means of disrupting grind culture through intentional resting and gathering with community. The beads were fired and strung up to frame time cards which represent the time participants spent “clocked in” to intentional play and resting. Special thanks to the Jannes Library and The Emily and Todd Voth Artspace for supporting this project and all the participants for their time and care.
